But it is a fine line between insufficiently demonstrating your value and falling into the “I” trap.

Overusing “I” can sometimes come across as self-centred, even if unintentional. Try to focus on the impact of your actions and think of situations with measurable or concrete outcomes instead:

  • Major incidents were reduced by xx% through ……..
  • Implemented/ identified a new system to cut processing time by XX%.
  • Secured a $XXX contract renewal by …….
  • Stakeholder engagement/ trust was improved by turning around a $xx failing project. This involved …..

Teamwork makes the dream work

It is however equally important to acknowledge when there has been collaboration and recognise how other’s efforts contributed to the outcome. This shows your humility and reinforces your ability to work with others successfully (an often essential trait for most roles).

Ultimately, the way you frame your experiences and connect with your interviewers says more about your confidence and competence than self-promotion ever can.
