According to the ABS, job vacancies have risen for the first time in more than 2 years; increasing by 344,000 last November.
In general, the private sector faired well with a 4.7% increase over the public sector which saw 0.4%. Fourteen out of the 18 industries reviewed reported an increase in job vacancies. However, construction and education sectors took big hits with -11.5% and -9.5% respectively.
Around the country
Job vacancies increased in most states, with SA seeing the biggest rise with 17.7%. But VIC and WA saw decreases of -2.2% and -0.1%.
By Industry
In brief, the private sector fared well with a 4.7% increase over the public sector which saw a 0.4% rise. Fourteen out of the 18 industries measured have seen increases:
➡️Mining, healthcare, utilities and professional/ technical services have all seen numbers significantly increase since 2020 levels.
➡️The technology industry is holding steady with little change from pre-pandemic vacancy numbers.
➡️Unfortunately, the construction and education sectors have taken big hits with -11.5% and -9.5% decreases respectively.
